Digital Signature Verification
How to verify digital signatures of a PDF document
Select the option “Verify signatures of a PDF document” on the home page or select the Document+Pencil icon in the vertical menu located on the left-hand side of the screen.
Click or drag and drop the document onto the box labelled “Upload a document” to upload the document containing the digital signature.
Can I use a scanner?
Scanning paper documents and then uploading them is not possible. Those doucment won’t contain any digital signature. Only the original digitally signed electronic document contains digital signatures.
Which types of signatures can be verified?
Only signatures issued by Notarius (CertifiO signatures and signatures applied using ConsignO Cloud) can be analyzed and displayed on-screen.
What does it mean if the digitally signed document has integrity?
The integrity of a digitally signed document is guaranteed if no modifications have been made to it following the application of the digital signature.
However, in certain circumstances, additions can be made without invalidating the digital signature. In this case, and to avoid any uncertainty regarding the document’s integrity, open the document using software such as ConsignO Desktop or Adobe Acrobat Reader to obtain specific details.
What does it mean if a digital signature is valid?
A signature is recognized as being valid if the certificate associated with the signer is valid (not revoked) at the time of signing and if the certificate was issued by a recognized certification authority.
A signature is invalid if it does not meet the conditions previously mentioned or if signature validation proof was not included at the time of signing (see long-term compliance) and the certificate is now expired.
What is PDF/A compliance?
PDF/A is based on ISO standard 19005 concerning the long-term archiving of PDF documents and ensures the longevity of information; fonts, images, graphic elements and document formatting are preserved over time, regardless of the application or platform used to create the document. The VerifiO app indicates if the document claims to be PDF/A-compliant. For a detailed analysis of PDF/A compliance, please use ConsignO Desktop or Adobe Acrobat.
PDF/A compliance is in no way linked to the integrity or validity of a document’s digital signatures.
What is long-term validation (LTV) compliance?
LTV compliance, in the context of digital signatures, ensures that the signature will remain valid over the long term, requiring signature validation proof to be integrated into the document. As a result, the signature can still be validated, even after the signing certificate has expired.
I would like more information about a document’s signatures, the certificates used and PDF/A compliance. Where can I look?
The verifio.com website offers a simplified view. For more details, use the option “Signature validation” in ConsignO Desktop or the signature panel in Adobe Acrobat.
