Visible Digital Seal (VDS) Verification
How do you verify a VDS code using the VerifiO website?
To verify a VDS code, select the option “Verify a Visible Digital Seal (VDS)” on the home page or select the VDS code icon in the vertical menu located on the left-hand side of the screen.
Click or drag and drop the document onto the box labelled “Upload a document or an image” to upload the document containing the code or code image to be verified.
To read a VDS code using a barcode scanner linked to a computer, select the box “Use a barcode scanner” and scan the code.
Which document and image formats are supported? Can I use a scanner?
The following formats are supported: .pdf, .jpeg and .png. You can upload an original PDF document, a paper document that has been scanned and saved as a PDF, or photo of a paper document taken with a high-quality camera (8+ megapixels), ensuring that there is sufficient contrast between the code’s black and white points.
What are the specifications for uploading a photo of a VDS code?
To get an optimal scan of a VDS code, we recommend taking a high-resolution photo (8+ megapixels). The photo must be clear and have a sufficient contrast between the code’s black and white points. Ensure that there are no shaded areas and that the size of the code is maximized in the photo.
What are the specifications for the barcode scanner?
Datamatrix 2D barcode scanner supported
Minimum resolution of 0.2 mm (8 thousandths of an inch) in Datamatrix
Keyboard wedge host interface (keyboard emulator)
Movement tolerance of 5 cm/seconds in Datamatrix mode
Tilt +/- 45 degrees
0 to 360-degree rotation
Suggested model: Scanner Zebra DS2278
Does the VDS code have to be located on the first page of the document?
No, the VDS can be located on any page in the PDF document. However, as each page is decoded one by one, the processing time will vary depending on the location of the VDS code in the document.
VDS Troubleshooting
The information that is displayed is different from the document. What should I do?
If the information displayed by VerifiO is different from the information in the document, the document’s reliability is not guaranteed, and the document may have been altered. Contact the issuer of the original document.
An error message is displayed during the verification. What should I do?
1- Sorry, we were unable to decode or locate a VDS code in the file.
Ensure that you have a high-quality image of the code or PDF document.
2- The VDS code is invalid.
A VDS code was located, but it does not correspond to a code that is validated and supported by VerifiO. For more information, contact the issuer of the original document containing the code.
3- This VDS code is not yet supported. Please see the Help section.

Digital Signature Verification
How to verify digital signatures of a PDF document
Select the option “Verify signatures of a PDF document” on the home page or select the Document+Pencil icon in the vertical menu located on the left-hand side of the screen.
Click or drag and drop the document onto the box labelled “Upload a document” to upload the document containing the digital signature.
Which document formats are supported?
Only .pdf format is supported.
Can I use a scanner?
Scanning paper documents and then uploading them is not possible. Digital signatures are destroyed when printed. Only the original electronic document contains digital signatures.
Which types of signatures can be verified?
Only signatures issued by Notarius (CertifiO signatures and signatures applied using ConsignO Cloud) can be analyzed and displayed on-screen.
What does it mean if the digitally signed document has integrity?
The integrity of a digitally signed document is guaranteed if no modifications have been made to it following the application of the digital signature.
However, in certain circumstances, additions can be made without invalidating the digital signature. In this case, and to avoid any uncertainty regarding the document’s integrity, open the document using software such as ConsignO Desktop or Adobe Acrobat Reader to obtain specific details.
What does it mean if a digital signature is valid?
A signature is recognized as being valid if the certificate associated with the signer is valid (not revoked) at the time of signing and if the certificate was issued by a recognized certification authority.
A signature is invalid if it does not meet the conditions previously mentioned or if signature validation proof was not included at the time of signing (see long-term compliance) and the certificate is now expired.
What is PDF/A compliance?
PDF/A is based on ISO standard 19005 concerning the long-term archiving of PDF documents and ensures the longevity of information; fonts, images, graphic elements and document formatting are preserved over time, regardless of the application or platform used to create the document. The VerifiO app indicates if the document claims to be PDF/A-compliant. For a detailed analysis of PDF/A compliance, please use ConsignO Desktop or Adobe Acrobat.
PDF/A compliance is in no way linked to the integrity or validity of a document’s digital signatures.
What is long-term validation (LTV) compliance?
LTV compliance, in the context of digital signatures, ensures that the signature will remain valid over the long term, requiring signature validation proof to be integrated into the document. As a result, the signature can still be validated, even after the signing certificate has expired.
I would like more information about a document’s signatures, the certificates used and PDF/A compliance. Where can I look?
The verifio.com website offers a simplified view. For more details, use the option “Signature validation” in ConsignO Desktop or the signature panel in Adobe Acrobat.
